After researching and toying with the idea of getting into beekeeping we came across an opportunity to chase our dreams. In the Spring 2020, we bought a dozen Italian honeybee hives from a beekeeper that was retiring to the beach. The bees are happily used as AG tax exemption status for those that meet the requirements and don’t mind sharing their space with us and our bees.

Through a partnership with our mentor, we have successfully kept our hives not only alive but thriving. They survived the drought of 2022 resulting in dark amber honey that is rich in antioxidants. This is the result of fewer flowering plants and water making the honey darker, richer, and dense.

This Winter we have sown clover, creeping thyme, and 5 varieties of coneflowers. Once Spring temperatures hit we will be adding Texas native pollinator-friendly plants to help ensure our gals have access to lots of great pollen options.
